Unzicker begins 2025 season with Nippy 50 at Maquoketa
Ryan Unzicker’s 2025 season officially got underway over the weekend as Maquoketa (IA) Speedway hosted the MARS Late Model Championship Series for the tour’s opener.
Drawing a stacked field of 45 Super Late Models for the Nippy 50 doubleheader, Unzicker snuck into Friday’s preliminary with a third-place finish in his heat. With a $10,000 payday, Ryan suffered terminal motor issues on lap 25 that brought a disappointing end to his night.
Forced to break out his secondary car on Saturday evening, Unzicked grabbed the final transfer spot in his heat race to lock into the $15,000-to-win Nippy 50 finale. Starting in 15th, Unzicker climbed two positions in the 50-lap affair to register a 13th-place finish.
