Seventh-place finish in Illinois Speedweek stop at Lincoln Speedway
Testing his mettle against some of the nation’s top competitors, Ryan Unzicker entered a formidable 48-car field on Tuesday at the newly reopened LaSalle Speedway for the Illinois Speedweek opener, sanctioned by FloRacing Night in America.
After finishing sixth in his heat race, Unzicker's night came to an early end in the consolation event due to mechanical issues.
He rebounded on Wednesday at Spoon River Speedway, charging from sixth-to-fourth in his heat to earn a spot in the $20,000-to-win A-Main. Unzicker continued his momentum in the feature, advancing six positions to notch a solid sixth-place finish.
On Thursday at Lincoln Speedway, the El Paso, Illinois native fell short of a transfer with a fifth-place result in his B-Main.
Unzicker wrapped up his Illinois Speedweek with a pair of Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series events. At Farmer City Raceway on Friday, contact with another competitor forced him to retire on lap 37. He capped the week with a 14th-place finish in Saturday’s FALS Spring Shootout at Fairbury Speedway.
