Runner-up finish in Summer Nationals stop at Peoria

Ryan Unzicker joined the DIRTcar Summer Nationals on Thursday afternoon, competing in the third round of the annual Hell Tour at Peoria Speedway.

With 44 Late Models in attendance, Unzicker backed up the second-fastest qualifying time in his 22-car group with a runner-up finish in his heat race. Rolling off seventh in the $5,000-to-win A-Main, he charged forward five positions to secure a strong second-place finish. He shared the podium with race winner Drake Troutman and third-place finisher Dennis Erb Jr.

Unzicker’s week continued Saturday at Fairbury Speedway, but his night came to an early end after getting caught in a multi-car incident on lap 37 of the feature.
