Ryan Unzicker Scores $10,000 MARS Victory in Macon’s KerbyStrong
EL PASO, Ill. (08/11/25) – Ryan Unzicker led the most important lap of Saturday’s MARS Late Model Championship Series event at Macon Speedway—the final one—to claim a $10,000 payday in the KerbyStrong race, held in honor of the late Macon track champion.
The win marked Unzicker’s third MARS triumph of the season and the 14th of his career.
“The track had plenty of character. (Jake Little) put on a good race right there, he just got unlucky, honestly. He was hitting the holes pretty good and he started bouncing at the wrong time and I was just good enough to be right there,” Unzicker said. “That’s what I keep telling my guys, and everybody, you gotta be right there to pounce. When somebody makes a mistake, you gotta be right there.”
The MARS Late Model Championship Series doubleheader weekend opened Friday at Sycamore Speedway with 30 entries vying for the Sycamore Showcase. Unzicker advanced from a third-place heat finish to charge from seventh to third in the 40-lap feature, joining race-winner Jason Feger and runner-up Dennis Erb Jr. on the podium.
At Macon on Saturday, Unzicker’s third-place heat result placed him on the fourth row for the 50-lap finale. He executed a last-lap pass on Little to secure his third victory of the 2025 campaign.
Unzicker now sits just five points behind Feger for the lead in the latest MARS standings.
