Unzicker adds MARS win at Farmer City Raceway
Three-Race Swing Yields Podium Finishes Across MARS Tour Events
A Labor Day weekend tripleheader with the MARS Late Model Championship Series brought Ryan Unzicker to Farmer City Raceway on Friday night, where he opened the stretch in winning form during the Chuckwagon Food Service 40.
After charging from the second row to win his heat race, Unzicker outdueled Ashton Winger in the 40-lap feature to earn his fourth win of the season and a $5,000 payday.
“I actually had some water pressure issues with the motor I was nervous about, I probably looked at my gauge more than I did the cars in front of me and the track,” Unzicker said. “That restart there with Ashton (Winger), he snuck by me, I just didn’t get a very good start and slipped and pushed a little bit. I knew I had a good car and I just went for it, a slide job there to take the lead and we had a good enough car to do that.”
Unzicker kept the momentum rolling on Saturday at Fairbury Speedway during the Illinois Dirt Shootout. After finishing second in his heat, he advanced from sixth to fourth in the $10,000-to-win A-Main.
He capped the weekend on Sunday at Spoon River Speedway, turning in another strong performance with a runner-up finish in the Plowboy Nationals.
Following his consistent run through the holiday weekend, Unzicker remains second in the latest MARS Late Model Championship Series standings.
