Ryan Unzicker Triumphs Illinois State Championship at Peoria Speedway
Ryan Unzicker delivered a thrilling performance on Saturday night at Peoria Speedway, charging from the seventh row to capture the $5,000 top prize in the Illinois State Championship. The win marked his fifth overall triumph of the 2025 season.
The 2022 Illinois State Champion added another title to his résumé at the Illinois oval, earning his second Peoria Speedway victory of the year after claiming the Garry Swibold Memorial back in April.
Unzicker’s night started slow, as he squeezed into the main event with the fifth-and-final transfer spot in his heat. He quickly went to work in the feature, breaking into the top five by lap 15. On lap 35, he executed a bold move from fifth to second, and one lap later, powered into the lead. From there, he never looked back, cruising to the checkered flag in his RJR Transportation No. 24 Late Model.
