Runner-up finish in Gateway Dirt Nationals prelim in St. Louis
Embarking on the sixth edition of the Gateway Dirt Nationals presented by O’Reilly Auto Parts, Ryan Unzicker traveled to the Dome at America’s Center (St. Louis, Mo.) to pilot his Pro Tire & Automotive No. 24 Late Model.
With the 119-car field divided into two groups for prelims on Thursday and Friday leading up to Saturday’s finale, Unzicker laid down the second-fastest time in his qualifying group before placing first in his heat. Earning the second-starting position for the $5,000-to-win prelim, Ryan chased race-long pacesetter Bobby Pierce to the checkers in the 30-lapper with Tanner English rounding out the podium.
Starting Saturday night’s $30,000-to-win Gateway Dirt Nationals finale in fifth via the redraw, Ryan tagged the turn two wall on the fourth circuit that ended his night early.
